According to the Daily News, Canyon defensive coordinator John DiLuigi was fired by Head Coach Chris Varner on Monday following a disagreement between DiLuigi and offensive coordinator Guy Vaughn during Friday’s 10-3 victory over West Ranch.

DiLuigi said he planned to leave the team after this season to focus on the career of his son, J.J. DiLuigi, who is redshirting at BYU this year because of a foot injury. However, he is apparently upset he was let go before the end of the season.

DiLuigi was part of Canyon’s Division I state bowl championship-winning team last year under Head Coach Harry Welch, who left Canyon last spring to become Head Coach over at St. Margaret’s. Before Canyon, DiLuigi was a defensive coordinator at Alemany.

Varner will take over the defensive coordinator duties.
