No shocker here: Hart RB Delano Howell was named Foothill Player of the Year on Monday by all the Foothill League coaches. You knew he had to be considered the favorite for the award since he played an incredibly crucial role in pushing the Indians to their first divisional title-game appearance since 2005.

I know things didn’t go Hart’s way against St. Bonaventure on Saturday, but it’s too bad Howell, one of the gutsiest players I’ve ever seen at this level, had to sit out most of the second half with a hip pointer. Every time Howell ran the ball it was something special to see and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s going to miss No. 6 breaking off the kind of runs that made him the best RB in Hart history.

Would things have ended differently if Howell and QB B.R. Holbrook didn’t get banged up? Perhaps, but I really think it was St. Bonny’s day -- and season, for that matter. Still, it would have been great to see Howell run the ball even a few more times.

But let’s not get too sentimental here. Afterall, he’ll be swatting down passes at Stanford next year.
