Central Catholic coaches wouldn’t miss this one

While making my way around the Home Depot Center stands in the first half of the Division I game between Corona Centennial and Concord De La Salle, I found a large contingent of Modesto Central Catholic fans huddled in the southwest corner.

I also found a large group of Central Catholic coaches sipping coffee or lattes or whatever among the peanut-shell laced aisles. I didn’t want to bother them in their natural football habitat, but I’m sure they were hoping De La Salle would finally win one for Northern California. After all, the land of Redwoods and cowbell-ringing fans is 0-5 in state division bowl games over the past two years.

Of course, I have a feeling that may change now that De La Salle leads Centennial, 24-7, at halftime. I picked the Spartans to win, but if Centennial doesn’t turn on the Bass burners, this could be the first bowl blowout.

By the way, none of the Central Catholic coaches flinched or looked at me when I took their photo, so I know this is a pure glimpse into their society.
