Remember way back around turkey day when I said Desert Christian was once again going to be a division title-chaser? Well, this is one prediction that seems to be looking pretty good for me. And I can thank Robyn Estrada for allowing me not to worry about at least one of my picks.

Thanks to Estrada’s four-goal effort on Monday, Desert Christian (12-0-1, 5-0), the top-ranked team in the Division VI coaches’ poll, soared to an unsurprising 5-0 victory over No. 3 Frazier Mountain (16-2, 5-1), snapping the Falcons’ 16-game winning streak. Estrada now has 18 goals and 11 assists in 13 games, so it wouldn’t be a shock if she matched her 40-goal total from last season.

Plus, playing soccer in cold Lebec couldn’t be easy.... I’ve had a fear of the place ever since I was snowed-in there after covering a Halloween Night prep football game back in ’03.

Anyway, Desert Christian’s real season won’t begin until the playoffs. A Division VI title is the only thing that will quench this team’s soccer desires, and no one in the Antelope Valley or the stretched-out High Desert League can pose a challenge. It looks as if Calvary Murrieta and, once again, Ontario Christian are the only teams that stand any kind of a chance against the Knights in the postseason.
