With Oaks Christian losing last night, I was thinking Notre Dame would be a shoe-in to make next week’s top 10 rankings of Southern Section teams in the San Fernando Valley/North region, as long as they didn’t stumble against Chaminade.

And thanks to a 21-point effort by sophomore swooshing sensation Kody Burke, the Knights are looking good with their 53-34 smackdown on Chaminade. Still, I have to admit I don’t think the Knights were too concerned about impressing me -- this was more of a revenge game after the Eagles beat them in the Mission League opener on Jan. 8.

The Knights won’t be looking in their rear-view mirrors from now on, though. Upcoming games against Louisville and Alemany shouldn’t be difficult, but the Knights better have their headbands on tight when they play at Harvard-Westlake for what should be a title-deciding contest on Feb. 7.

I wish I could be in the Harvard-Westlake gym for that one, but I’m going to have to create four or five clones of myself if I want cover all the big games on Feb. 7-8. We’ll see if this exciting contest makes the cut.
