The big men for Renaissance Academy went scoreless in the opening quarter of the boys’ Division V state final, leaving guards Josh Thomas (six points) and Tremaine Tatum (four) to pick up the slack at Arco Arena in Sacramento.

Ross Branson also scored 10 points in the opening quarter, meaning we’re all tied up heading into the second. If you looked at these teams during their warm-ups, you’d be convinced Renaissance Academy is the better team, but Branson seems to do all the right things.

Much of that credit goes to Oliver McNally, the Harvard-bound guard for the Bulls, who scored four points in the opening quarter.
