What’s up with Quartz Hill‘s Shon Roe? I know the Loyola Marymount-bound shortstop is one of the Antelope Valley’s best metalworkers, but this guy has been blazing hot ever since Golden League play got swinging a few weeks ago.

One game after hitting for a home run cycle, Roe hit a couple home runs and a double in the Rebels’ 16-0 shellacking of Antelope Valley on Wednesday. As the AV Press pointed out, Roe has eight hits in his last eight at-bats along with six home runs, 19 RBI and 29 total bases. Wow!

Since league play started, Roe has an impressive .607 batting average. He’s also riding an eight-game hitting streak. And here’s the scary thing -- he’s not even the team’s best hitter. Travis McBride and Josh Firm have higher seasonal batting averages than the long-ball cycler.

Now, I hate to rain on this superb hit parade, but let’s face it -- except for Palmdale, the Golden League is kind of a cold fish. The real test for Roe & Co. will be to keep their bats-a-pinging in the Division III playoffs. Hopefully, the somewhat soft league schedule won’t be their Achilles’ Heel.

Still, as good as Roe is with the bat, I’d like to see him pull this off:
