Big news out of the Conejo Valley -- Thousand Oaks baseball coach Frank Mutz has resigned and will take over as baseball coach at Chaminade, according to a school press release.

Mutz, who guided the Lancers to two Marmonte League championships and a 61-26-1 record in his three seasons, becomes the third coach in three years for Chaminade. The Eagles finished 11-16 and missed the playoffs this year.

I’m a little surprised by the move, considering how well the Lancers played this season (though it appears Mutz received a pay raise out the deal). Still, it’ll be interesting to see if he can mold Chaminade into a Mission League title contender capable of beating Notre Dame and Crespi in 2009.

Also, if there are any other coaches looking for something to do with their afternoons next spring, be sure to call Thousand Oaks AD Jason Klinger at (805) 495-7491, Ext. 1019. Coaching applications will be accepted until June 30.
