Football: Late field goal gives Edison 10-7 halftime lead

Mater Dei may have history on its side, but Edison is showing everybody tonight at Orange Coast College it’ll definitely be a team to keep tabs on this postseason.

Thanks to a 28-yard field goal by Lucas Vanderman in the closing seconds of the first half, Edison, ranked No. 11 by The Times, leads No. 6 Mater Dei, 10-7, at halftime.

Edison would have been up a touchdown by now if it hadn’t been for an impressive defensive stand by the Monarchs that prevented the Chargers from scoring from the Mater Dei 10-yard line. However, penalties have hurt the Monarchs’ chances to pull ahead.
