Chaparral capitalized on Centennial’s second turnover of the first half when quarterback Mitch Glassman lofted a perfectly placed pass to Antoine Arnold for a 17-yard touchdown play with three seconds left before intermission to give the Pumas a 7-0 lead.

Chaparral linebacker Fontayne Fuga set up the score by intercepting a Taylor Martinez pass near midfield and returning it to the Centennial 28-yard line. Martinez also could have had two other passes intercepted, and the Huskies lost a fumble one play after Arthur Burns ripped off a 42-yard run to move the ball into Chaparral territory.

The Pumas also had a couple of first-half miscues, with an errant snap on a field-goal attempt squirting past the placeholder for a 16-yard loss. Chaparral also failed to execute a fake-punt attempt when Zach Stephens couldn’t catch Jonathan Diaz’s pass.

Diaz has 64 yards in 18 carries, and Burns has 72 yards in seven carries for Centennial. Neither quarterback was having a good first half until Glassman’s touchdown pass allowed him to finish the half completing five of 15 passes for 57 yards. Martinez completed three of 10 passes for 30 yards.
