Winter baseball: Buena, San Marcos win tourney titles

Buena captured the varsity division of the Cougar Classic Baseball Tournament last weekend at Ventura and San Marcos highs.

Buena and Hueneme both finished the tournament 4-0, but Buena was awarded the title by virtue of allowing fewer runs.

Similarly, San Marcos and Ventura both went 3-1 in the junior varsity division but San Marcos was awarded the title because it allowed fewer runs.

‘This is a great way for players to get a head start on their upcoming high school season as well as coaches to get an early look at some of the kids in their program,’ San Marcos Coach Rob Crawford said in a statement.
