Dave Marder, the father of Oregon-bound shortstop Jack Marder of Newbury Park, advised his son before Wednesday’s game against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame to take the first pitch off sidearmer Josh Goossen-Brown.

His son ignored him.

‘I’m not listening to you dad,’ Jack said.

Smart kid.

Marder hit a home run to left field on the first pitch, making him six for seven this season. After the home run, his father smiled and said his son was right to swing.
