It’s hard to find a better matchup than what No. 2 Anaheim Servite and No. 15 Encino Crespi will likely present 7:30 tonight at Cerritos College.

The Friars (2-0) caught everyone’s attention early with a 30-7 victory over Long Beach Poly, who had pre-season No. 1 rankings. The Times’ Eric Sondheimer recently noted that this may be Servite’s best team yet under Coach Troy Thomas, who is the team’s defensive coordinator five years after coaching Crespi.

Meanwhile, the Celts (2-0) are treating this season as redemption for last year’s performance where Crespi remained winless in the Serra League, lost its final three games and missed the Southern Section Pac-5 Division playoffs. It was recently noted that Coach Jeremiah Ross won both meetings against Thomas, his former mentor.
