A pair of relatively new Southern California football powers are getting set to clash tonight in the Inland Division championship game at Vista Murrieta.

Top-seeded Vista Murrieta is making its first appearance in a section title game in its sixth varsity season, and Chaparral is back in the championship game for the third time in four years. Neither has won a title.

It’s pretty soggy out here, but the Broncos have a nice artificial-turf field that appears to be holding up well. Temporary bleachers have been brought in in both end zones and the stands are already full more than a half hour before kickoff.

I picked Chaparral in an upset because I think the Pumas are a team of destiny. They have won each of their three previous playoff games literally on the last play.

If Vista Murrieta wins, it will could represent Southern California in the Division I state championship bowl game next week. Undefeated Oceanside, which defeated Helix to improve to 13-0, is also in the mix.
