Visibility has been drastically reduced in the last 10 minutes at Carson, where the fog has enveloped the field and made passing a tricky proposition.

That could benefit the top-seeded Colts, who hold a 14-7 halftime lead over fifth-seeded Taft in a City Section Division I semifinal. Toreadors quarterback Michael Bercovici ended the second quarter on a roll, completing seven of his last eight passes. But if the fog gets any thicker Taft might have to turn to its running game, which generated only 59 first-half yards.

Bercovici has completed 10 of 17 passes overall for 144 yards.

Carson got some steady running from Myles Johnson (50 yards in eight carries) and Kendell Sparks (46 yards and a touchdown in three carries). Quarterback Justin Alo has completed four of 11 passes for 58 yards.

Taft will get the ball first to start the third quarter. The Toreadors had a flurry of penalties in the first half and need to clean things up to advance.

In the other semifinal, Crenshaw holds a 28-6 halftime lead over Venice.
