Baseball: Vista Murrieta makes final

Vista Murrieta advanced to the championship game of the Loara tournament with a 19-0 win over Lakewood. Vista Murrieta also beat El Toro earlier in the tournament, so the Broncos are off to a 4-0 start under new Coach Kurt Ruth.

They will face Huntington Beach Edison in the final. Edison defeated Long Beach Wilson, 8-2, behind Jon Torres, who threw a complete game.

Valencia and Chatsworth made it to the Easton tournament final. Valencia defeated Chaminade, 2-0, behind Nick Rivas, who hit a two-run home run and pitched six shutout innings. Aaron Brown threw the shutout in Chatsworth’s 7-0 win over Newhall Hart.

Corey Sims hit a three-run home run and Cody Thompson threw four scoreless innings in Alemany’s 4-1 win over West Ranch.

Encino Crespi improved to 4-0 with a 7-3 victory over Reseda Cleveland. The Celts scored four unearned runs in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie. Scott Heineman threw a complete-game four-hitter, striking out six.

Dos Pueblos defeated Woodland Hills El Camino Real, 13-4. The Conquistadores committed five errors. Granada Hills Kennedy defeated Calabasas, 6-2, with Chris Mallon and Dan Alcantar hitting two-run home runs.

Branden Grieger had three hits and five RBIs in Simi Valley’s 17-4 win over Saugus. Justin Sheehan had three hits and homered for Saugus. North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake defeated Palmdale, 13-0. Freshmen Jack Flaherty and Brian Ginsberg each had two hits. Jason Garfinkel had three hits and Lucas Giolito picked up the pitching win with five shutout innings.

El Toro defeated Anaheim Servite, 2-1. Tyler Brashears struck out seven in a complete game. Sophomore Dan James drove in the winning run. St. John Bosco advanced to the final of the El Segundo tournament with a 5-4 win over Torrance. Matt Charmello’s two-run single in the seventh won it. Moorpark defeated Ventura, 3-2, in 8 innings.
