The rain is falling, so the records may not.

The stadium at Clovis Buchanan High has been deluged with a light, steady rain throughout the day during a storm that has deposited about a quarter inch of precipitation in the area.

The current temperature is 63 degrees, and winds are light. Not exactly ideal conditions for the championship events at the state track and field meet.

Officials have pushed back the start of the boys’ pole vault in hopes that conditions improve. The latest radar shows the area in the midst of a precipitation cell that could last another hour or so.

Among the athletes hoping to set state records are Covina’s Remontay McClain in the boys’ 100-meter dash and Agoura’s Jonathan Cabral in the boys’ 110 hurdles. Long Beach Poly’s Melia Cox is favored in the girls’ 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and could take home multiple state titles.
