Tight end Miles Willis scored on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Conner Sullivan to give Orange Lutheran (5-2,0-2) a 6-0 lead with 4:39 left in the first quarter.

The Lancers looked like they would make a quick exit on their first possession, but a Mater Dei (3-4, 1-1) penalty for roughing the passer on third down kept the drive alive. Orange Lutheran went 75 yards in nine plays to get the touchdown.

Orange Lutheran got the ball back minutes later when Demetrius Palmer intercepted a pass on the Monarchs’ ensuing possession.

Both teams desperately need a win to keep their playoff hopes legitimate. Orange Lutheran has lost its first two Trinity League games and a third loss could severely compromise their postseason hopes.

Mater Dei’s only league loss came last week, but a loss tonight would mean they likely would have to win their remaining games against top-ranked Servite and JSerra to secure a playoff spot.
