A communication problem will force Venice and San Diego Helix to play only nine regular-season games this fall.

The two schools were scheduled to meet in a nonleague game in September but both schools thought the game was on different dates, and the commissioners for the City Section and San Diego Section have ruled that the game won’t be played and the schools can’t reschedule.

‘We were looking forward to playing Helix,’ Venice Coach Angelo Gasca said.

Helix and Venice played in week four last season. Because the season begins a week earlier, Helix failed to take that into account on its schedule. Helix had the game scheduled for Sept. 28 at Helix, the day Venice plays Dorsey. Venice had Helix on its schedule for Sept. 21.

Gasca would like to pick up another game to replace Helix, but so far, the City Section is not allowing it.
