A Canoga Park man became Los Angeles’ first traffic fatality of 1985 when he was ejected from his car Tuesday afternoon in a two-car accident at Chatsworth Street and White Oak Avenue in Granada Hills, police said.

The county coroner’s office identified the victim as Brantley Davis, 23.

A 17-year-old Northridge resident was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after allegedly running a red light and crashing into Davis’ vehicle, police said. The suspect’s name was withheld because he is a juvenile.

Witnesses reported that the youth, who was driving eastbound on Chatsworth Street, failed to stop at a red light and hit Davis’ car, which was northbound on White Oak Avenue, said Sgt. William Hancock of the Valley traffic bureau.

Davis’ car spun around and the driver’s door flew open, Hancock said. He was thrown from the car and his head struck the side of a building. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.
