Irvine police arrested a state prison escapee for investigation of rape after staking out the bar where the victim said she met her assailant. Jerry Ray Fontanez, 21, of Long Beach was held in Orange County Jail on a no-bail escape warrant from the California Institution for Men at Chino, Irvine Police Lt. Gene Norden said. The victim, a 23-year-old Long Beach woman, told investigators that she accepted a ride early Sunday from a man she had met at a Long Beach bar. “He drove her to the Irvine area, where he had sexual intercourse with her against her will,” Norden said. The man then drove the woman to the Los Angeles area and released her. Norden said Irvine detectives staked out the bar for two nights and made the arrest after a witness said Fontanez was the man who had left with the woman. A Chino prison spokeswoman said that because of the holiday, no information on Fontanez was available.
