20 Thoroughbred Racehorses Perish When Fire Destroys Stable in Louisiana

Twenty thoroughbred racehorses, valued at about a half-million dollars, burned to death Wednesday when fire destroyed a stable about 20 miles from Louisiana Downs racetrack, authorities said.

“The barn was insured but, with the exception of three or so, the horses were not,” said Amy Richey, who with her husband owned about four of the horses housed at the farm owned by her father, breeder Travis Duren.
