A 12-year-old Chula Vista girl was killed Friday night on Interstate 5 in Sorrento Valley after the compact car in which she riding was hit from the rear by a woman suspected of drunk driving, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. Veronica Borboa was pronounced dead at the scene after her body was cut from the back seat of the car. Cindy Vogel, 27, of San Diego, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving, the spokesman said. She is listed in stable condition at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. Both cars were heading south on I-5 near the Sorrento Valley Road exit before Vogel’s car hit the compact, sending the car into the guardrail, the spokesman said. The three other occupants of compact car were injured. They are Veronica’s 15-year-old brother, Guillermo Borboa, who is listed in critical condition at Children’s Hospital; and the driver of the compact car, Raphael Torres, 20, and another passenger, Freddie Torres, 15, both of whom were listed in serious condition at Scripps.
