Woodside Leads Beavers Over Ducks
Steve Woodside scored 21 points to lead Oregon State to a 59-54 Pacific 10 victory over Oregon Wednesday night.
The Beavers (12-1 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-10) broke a 47-47 tie with 6:06 left on a jumper by A. C. Green. The Ducks (7-9 and 0-3) drew within one at 53-52 with 1:26 left on two free throws by freshman Rick Osborn.
Oregon State freshman Byron Thierry, who has played little this season, then banked in a shot, and Darrin Houston hit two free throws with 22 seconds left to give OSU a 57-52 lead. Oregon’s Anthony Taylor closed it to 57-54 on a field goal but fouled Woodside, who sank both free throws for the final margin.
