A 26-year-old Oceanside man was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly tried to run over another man with a car, police said. Steve Hamren was booked into the County Jail at Vista after he allegedly tried to run over Louis Harker, 28, of Carlsbad, after an argument, said Oceanside Police Officer Bill Krunglevich. Harker and Hamren’s wife, Molly, 22, were talking in his car at 1:45 a.m. in the El Camino North Shopping Center parking lot when Hamren appeared and tried to pull Harker out of the car, Krunglevich said. After a brief scuffle, the men returned to their cars. Hamren reached his first, chased Harker around the parking lot and hit Harker on the right side, Krunglevich said. Security officers at the shopping center held the three in protective custody until police arrived, Krunglevich said. Harker was treated at Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside for cuts and bruises. Hamren was also treated for a cut above the left eye that he suffered during the struggle.
