Two men were injured Saturday when they crash-landed their single-engine plane in a wash near the San Gabriel River, two miles from El Monte Municipal Airport, officials said.

The two men, pilot Ronald William Dunn, 54, of Temple City, and his passenger Andrew Vidaurri, 28, of San Gabriel were taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina. Both apparently suffered broken bones and cuts, Los Angeles County fire officials said.

Dunn told authorities that he was making an approach to the El Monte airport when the engine of his small Cessna began to sputter. He had flown the plane from the Salton Sea.

Dunn was being treated for a broken left wrist and facial cuts. Vidaurri suffered a broken back, broken ribs and a broken left ankle. Both were in stable condition, hospital officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating the incident.
