The Metro Arson Strike Team was investigating a three-alarm fire in two commercial buildings and an equipment yard Sunday night in downtown San Diego, fire officials said. About 75 firefighters and 17 units responded to the fire at John Hansen Materials and House Moving at 1489 Island Ave. about 8:40 p.m. San Diego Fire Department spokesman Larry Stewart said investigators were treating it as a suspicious fire. No injuries were reported, and the damage had not been determined, but fire officials said two buildings, equipment and materials had burned. John Hanson Co’s. Inc. reportedly kept heavy earth moving, rigging, house moving and demolition equipment and building materials in the company’s yard. One of the buildings housed offices.
