Fittipaldi Will Compete in Sprint Challenge

Two-time Formula One world champion Emerson Fittipaldi of Brazil has accepted an invitation to race in the Mazda Interamerican Challenge sprint race here, a city spokesman has announced.

The Feb. 23 race will pit 20 drivers from various nations in the hemisphere against each other in a 30-minute sprint using identical Mazda automobiles.

Fittipaldi is considered one of the three favorites, according to Michael Patterson, spokesman for Miami’s Department of Economic Development.
