NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle will talk with the Buffalo Bills and any other teams interested in Boston College quarterback Doug Flutie to facilitate his league’s battle with the USFL’s New Jersey Generals for the Heisman Trophy winner’s services in 1985.

“From my talks with Doug, he is leaning very strongly to signing with Donald Trump and the Generals,” said Bob Woolf, Flutie’s attorney. “The talks have progressed very nicely.”

Rozelle said Woolf had contacted him in order to learn if the Bills, the team with the first pick in the April 30 NFL draft, are serious about his client.

“Yes, Flutie representatives have talked to me through people in the league and they would like to find out what interest the league has in him,” Rozelle said. “He’s getting pressure to sign from Donald Trump.

“The Buffalo Bills, of course, have the right to Flutie if they want, unless they were to trade this right or say they won’t take him. The NFL draft is April 30, but this has to be done very quickly because it’s tough on Flutie, his agent and his father to have that offer from the Generals.”
