Trustees of the San Diego Unified School District gave themselves a 100% pay increase Tuesday, doubling their annual salaries from $9,000 to $18,000. The trustees, who first proposed the increase two weeks ago, heard criticism from representatives of the Classified Employees Assn., but little reaction from the public. The CEA has a contract dispute with the district. Trustees, who were allowed to raise their own pay because of recent state legislation, say they usually work at least 40 hours a week on school affairs.
