The northern end of Treasury Drive, a privately owned street that has been used as an alternate road to Hawthorne Boulevard between Carson Street and Sepulveda Boulevard, will be closed.

Last month the City Council voted unanimously to close the street after residents living behind the small shopping center that the road services complained of excessive traffic noise.

Since the road was opened nearly 13 years ago behind a former Treasury department store (now a Mervyn's store), the city Transportation Department and the owners of the property, Pacific Development Group of Newport Beach, have sought ways to keep motorists from using the back road to avoid heavily congested Hawthorne Boulevard, which fronts the property.
