A design competition is being held for a new Hawthorne Boulevard median entryway on the city's northern boundary at Rosecrans Avenue. The $44,000 project is part of a city effort to upgrade the boulevard, the "Main Street" of Lawndale. All entries are due by April 15 and will be judged by design and architectural experts.

The winner will be commissioned to do the project. Other awards will be in cash: second, $500; third, $200, and honorable mention, $100. Entry forms, which include technical requirements and site specifications, may be obtained from City Hall, 14717 Burin Ave., Lawndale, CA 90260. A $15 entry fee is required to obtain a form.
