The legs of an elderly woman were nearly severed by an RTD bus that knocked her down and ran over her near a downtown bus yard, officials said. The 70-year-old woman, who carried no identification, was in critical condition at County-USC Medical Center, Fire Department spokesman Larry Ford said. A hospital spokeswoman said the woman’s legs were “severly mangled.” The accident occurred at Avenue 26 and Idell Street, RTD spokesman Rick Jager said. There were no passengers on the bus, which had just finished a run and was turning into the yard, when the pedestrian was struck.
