A motorcyclist drag racing with a friend was killed when he lost control, hit the curb on Knott Street south of Stanford Avenue and struck a parked car Wednesday night.

Gregory Goodspeed, 26, of Westminster died at 9:42 p.m. at the scene of the accident. Garden Grove police arrested the other motorcyclist, Christopher Garcia, 27, of Buena Park on suspicion of manslaughter and released him later that night.

Traffic investigator Dennis Larson said witnesses told police the two started to race southbound when the traffic signal at Lampson Avenue turned green and were moving “well over 60” m.p.h. before Goodspeed, who was wearing a helmet, crashed where the road curves to the east. He was thrown from his Yamaha 650 and into the car.

Larson said police found no indication that the two men had been drinking.

“From what I understand, they had been friends for a long time,” Larson said.
