Fishing Report : Big Spotted Bass Keep Perris Anglers Busy

Alabama spotted bass fishermen at Perris Reservoir have been busy this week. Bass to eight pounds have been caught, with several others in the six-pound class reported. A year ago, a 9-pound 6-ounce spotted bass was caught at Perris, which exceeded the all-tackle world record.

In San Diego County, Lake Otay opened last week to largemouth bass fishing, but anglers encountered slow fishing, due to colder than normal water.

WILLOW BEACH--Don Braggs, Las Vegas, 8-pound striped bass at 53-mile marker. Limits of pan-size rainbow trout reported to Nelson’s Landing.

LAKE MEAD--Slightly improved striper fishing in rear of Vegas Wash, Overton Arm. Some good reports on crappie, catfish in Overton Arm.

BULLHEAD CITY--Good action on trout in river, lake. More limits reported on lake. River good for larger trout, from boats, shores.

SALTON SEA--Improved corvina results in Red Hill, New River areas. Fish running 4 to 8 pounds, with some limits reported. Good for sargo. Tilapia good at mouths of streams at Johnson, Lincoln streets.

LAKE CACHUMA--Bass, redear sunfish slow. Cachuma Bay, Martini Bay best bets for trout, with standard baits.

LAKE CASITAS--Very good trout fishing in Wadleigh Arm, trolling or still fishing with baits. Pete Floyd, Oak View, new lake record 9-pound 5-ounce rainbow from shore with cheese. Some bass success, deep water. Good deep water catfish results with cut mackerel.

LAKE CASTAIC--Improved fishing for pan size trout. Good for bass at 30- to 45-foot depths. Gerren Kieth, Los Angeles, 10-pound 5-ounce largemouth bass with purple jig.

LAKE ISABELLA--Improved fishing for bass, trout. Crappie moving into shallows, where some in 2-0 class caught this week. Slow for bluegill, catfish.

SAN DIEGO LAKES--Otay: Water temperature 54 opening day. Improved fishing Wednesday: 9-pound 4-ounce bass by Dennis Cintas, Bonita. Several bass in 4-pound class seen. Miramar: Slow, all species. San Vicente: Jim Goodwin, El Cajon, 9-pound 14-ounce bass. Bill Heath, Lakeside, biggest trout of year, 7-pound 8 ounces, with nightcrawler.

IRVINE LAKE--Ron Greek, Irvine, 10-pound 4-ounce rainbow. Good trout fishing for still, trolling, shore fishing.

PERRIS RESERVOIR--Peter Guaci, La Habra, 8-pound Alabama spotted bass. Four this week in 4-pound class.

LAKE IRWINDALE--Some 5 to 6 pound rainbow trout reported this week. Some bass in 4- to 5-pound class. Bill Gutib, West Covina, 80 bluegill Monday. Generally good trout fishing.

VAIL LAKE--Mark Smith, Dana Point, Clint Hicks, San Diego, 9-pound 2-ounce, 8-pound 4-ounce, 7-pound 2-ounce, 5-pound 11-ounce, 5-pound largemouth bass. Good bass reports now. North shore best bet for crappie. Trout fair.

LAKE SILVERWOOD--Good trout fishing. Two 3-pound crappie caught at marina by Bob Garrison, Running Springs. No striper reports. Some success on small largemouth bass.

LAKE HENSHAW--All species slow.

BISHOP AREA--Good fishing at Pleasant Valley Reservoir for 2- and 3-pound rainbows with lures. Lower Owens River still producing good catches of pan size rainbows. Brown trout slow.

AVILA BAY (Port San Luis)--7 anglers: 3 ling cod, 32 red rock cod, 17 yellow bass, 56 rock cod, 12 mackerel.

SANTA BARBARA (Sea Landing)--13 anglers: 96 rock fish, 5 sand bass, 1 calico bass, 40 mackerel.

OXNARD--66 anglers: 503 rock cod.

PORT HUENEME--16 anglers: 207 rock cod, 1 cow cod, 1 ling cod, 9 red snapper.

MALIBU--30 anglers: 10 calico bass, 20 sand bass, 12 red snapper, 60 rock cod, 250 rock fish.

MARINA DEL REY--24 anglers: 1 halibut, 2 sand bass, 78 rock cod.

REDONDO--31 anglers: 245 rock fish.

LONG BEACH (Belmont Pier)--44 anglers: 232 rock fish, 150 rock cod, 1 cow cod.

NEWPORT (Newport Landing)--6 anglers: 8 rock fish, 1 sand bass, 3 mackerel. (Davey’s Locker)--41 anglers: 156 rock cod, 5 cow cod, 6 sand bass, 25 mackerel.

DANA WHARF--62 anglers: 2 bass, 53 rock fish, 6 mackerel.

OCEANSIDE--14 anglers: 1 bonito, 56 calico bass, 28 sand bass, 50 mackerel.
