San Diego Prep Basketball : Poway’s Perfect Season Ended by Torrey Pines

Share

Top-rated Poway High School had won its first 19 games this season, and it didn’t appear that anyone would be able to blemish the Titans’ perfect record.

But Torrey Pines had other ideas Friday night in Del Mar, as the Falcons upset the Titans, 54-53. Scott Kennedy’s jumper with 30 seconds left was the difference. Poway is 9-1, 19-1. Torrey Pines, fighting for the second Palomar League playoff spot, is 7-4, 11-11.

Torrey Pines was ahead, 52-51, with about a minute left, but Jud Buechler hit a pair of free throws to give Poway a one-point lead.
