After reviewing more than 40 applications and interviewing each candidate, the City Council is set to ratify 15 nominations for two important commissions and the Personnel Advisory Board Tuesday night.

Nominated for the Planning Commission are JoAn Case, Bill Snyder, Alicita Lewis, Keith Mount and Joseph Cristiano.

Those chosen to serve on the Recreation and Leisure Commission are Norman Ross, Cliff Naber, Joan Thomas, Susan Gibbs and Jim Nelson.

The new members of the Personnel Advisory Board are Paul Verellen, Larry Lomax, Helen Ramirez, John Schweibert and Marion Harper.

The commissioners are the first to be chosen under a new procedure adopted by the current council at its first meeting. The procedure, which allows each council member to nominate one person for each of the three commissions, is aimed at opening the positions to the entire community.

In the past, individual commissioners were simply nominated by council members and approved by a majority of the five-person council. That procedure led to charges of cronyism and permitted a simple council majority to name all the commissioners.

The commissioners will be sworn in at City Hall immediately after ratification. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30.
