HIGH POINT, N.C. —
A fire swept through an old hotel that serves as a home for transients Thursday night, killing five persons and critically burning a sixth, police said.
The blaze at the three-story Biltmore Hotel erupted shortly after another fire had been brought under control at the nearby Wachovia Bank & Trust Co., police Capt. R. J. MacGuire said. Both fires were brought under control.
The cause of the fires was not immediately determined.
