Pincay Rides 3 Winners, Nears 6,000
Laffit Pincay rode three winners Thursday at Santa Anita, moving him to within four victories of the 6,000 mark.
Only two jockeys have ever won more than 6,000--Bill Shoemaker with 8,439 and Johnny Longden with 6,032.
Shoemaker got his 8,439th at Santa Anita Wednesday when he rode Savannah Dancer to victory in the Santa Ysabel Stakes. Longden, who trains horses locally, retired in 1966.
Pincay, who rode his first winner in his native Panama in 1964, probably will pass Longden’s total before the Santa Anita season ends.
