2 Injured Slightly in Garage Fire
A homeowner and an Orange County firefighter suffered minor injuries Friday night in a garage fire at a Huntington Beach home.
Fire Capt. Mick Terich said the homeowner, Roque Cerda, was working on a car in the garage at 8191 Indianapolis Ave. about 6:50 p.m. Cerda accidentally knocked over an electric lamp and gasoline can simultaneously, said Terich, and electric sparks ignited the gas fumes. Cerda suffered minor burns on his hands but did not require hospitalization, Terich said.
Orange County firefighter Jerry Shacklett suffered a strained leg while fighting the blaze, Terich said. He added that the fire spread from the garage to the kitchen of the house but was extinguished in about 20 minutes.
Terich estimated damage at $20,000 to the structure and $4,000 to contents.
