Use of Transit Sales Tax to Be Discussed
City Manager Lloyd de Llamas and Manny Hernandez, senior community representative of the Southern California Rapid Transit District, will discuss public transportation at a noon luncheon Friday at the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce, 163 W. Garvey Ave. They will explain how money collected from a half-cent county sales tax for transportation is being spent.
The tax will produce nearly $500,000 in revenue for Monterey Park this year. About $64,000 is being spent on a dial-a-ride program for senior citizens. A study is now under way to help the City Council decide how the remainder of the money could be used to improve transit services.
