The Region : La Habra Patient Struck by Car, Killed

A patient from La Habra Community Hospital was killed when he stepped into traffic in the 200 block of Lambert Road, La Habra police said. According to Lt. Howard Berry, Gordon M. Smith, 32, of La Palma, stepped into the street and was hit by a car. Smith, who was wearing an identification bracelet from La Habra Community Hospital, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not cited. Hospital officials declined to say what Smith was being treated for or the circumstances of his departure from the facility. Bernie Mazuca, senior deputy coroner, said that Smith was dressed in street clothes.
