CORONA NORCO : Truck Driver Dies in Crash on Ramp

A Los Angeles woman was killed early Thursday when the tractor-trailer rig she was driving with a load of chickens rolled over near Mira Loma in northwest Riverside County.

Robin L. Brown, 24, was thrown from the cab when the truck and two trailers overturned on a ramp connecting southbound Interstate 15 with the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway, said Officer Terry Taylor of the California Highway Patrol.

Brown’s truck had been scraping the left guard rail for about 500 feet before the truck rolled, leading investigators to believe that excessive speed caused the accident, Taylor said.

A passenger, Bobby Broxton, 28, of Los Angeles, suffered minor injuries when he was thrown from the truck. Broxton was treated at Riverside Community Hospital.

The Highway Patrol closed the ramp for about six hours while the truck and its spilled contents--a load of 3,962 chickens--were cleared from the roadway.

“Several hundred,” and perhaps as many as a third, of the birds were killed, Taylor said.

The truck and chickens are owned by Pat & Sons Poultry Co. of Los Angeles, he said.
