Dodgers Continue the Contract Talks

There was no progress Sunday in contract negotiations involving pitcher Orel Hershiser and shortstop Dave Anderson, the only two Dodgers still unsigned.

Dodger Vice President Al Campanis spoke Sunday with Robert Fraley, an attorney who represents both players, and will speak to him again today.

If the sides cannot come to an agreement by March 10, the players’ contracts will automatically be renewed.

In ceremonies connected to the 30th reunion of the 1955 world champion Brooklyn Dodgers, the Dodgers dedicated Pee Wee Reese Road, named after their Hall Of Fame shortstop. Fittingly, Reese Road intersects Jackie Robinson Avenue, named after the Hall of Fame second baseman. Robinson’s widow, Rachel, was present for the ceremonies.

Following discussions between his attorney, James Hawkins, and Dodger publicity officials, it was decided that pitcher Steve Howe will not conduct a press conference here, at least for the time being. Howe is returning after a year’s absence due to drug-related problems.
