Laurie Boschman, Robert Picard and Doug Smail scored two goals apiece as Winnipeg set a team scoring record with a 12-5 National Hockey League rout of the New York Rangers Monday night at New York.

Picard knocked in a rebound with 1:26 remaining for Winnipeg’s 11th goal, surpassing the 10 scored against Toronto in 1982 and Los Angeles in 1983.

Dale Hawerchuk and Jim Nill collected a goal and two assists each as the Jets won for the 15th time on the road this season, one more than they managed all of last year.

Hawerchuk’s three points gave the NHL’s third-leading scorer 101 points for the season, the third time in four years he has reached the 100-point mark.

New York’s Tom Laidlaw and Smail traded unassisted goals in the first four minutes of the game. Then the Jets, led by Hawerchuk and Boschman, broke it open with three goals in 100 seconds.

Minnesota 5, Pittsburgh 4--Steve Payne, Dino Ciccarelli and Bo Berglund scored goals in a span of 1:48 late in the second period to rally the North Stars at Pittsburgh. Minnesota was trailing, 3-2, at 17:17 of the second period when Payne scored an unassisted goal on a power play. Ciccarelli gave the North Stars a 4-3 lead just 18 seconds later when he put in Neal Broten’s rebound. Berglund beat Roberto Romano at 19:05 with a shot from the right wing boards. Chicago 4, Toronto 3--Defenseman Doug Wilson found the lower left corner at 3:56 of the overtime period to give the Black Hawks the victory at Toronto.

Wilson’s second goal of the game and 19th of the season came after center Denis Savard dropped a pass in the slot, leaving Wilson with a clear shot.
