A dispute between roommates Wednesday sent one man to the San Diego County Courthouse to seek a restraining order and another to a sporting goods store to buy a .22-caliber rifle and ammunition. Police were called to the 4000 block of Florida Street at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday and discovered the bodies of Timothy Edward Crippen, 29, and his roommate, Richard Edward Furin, 36. Police officials said Furin apparently shot Crippen 10 times in the back and chest, scattered at least 24 more shots randomly around the house and then turned his new rifle on himself. In the house police found both the temporary restraining order against Furin, issued Wednesday, and a receipt for the slaying weapon with a purchase date of Wednesday. Homicide Lt. Paul Ybarrondo said the restraining order indicated that Furin “had been harassing (Crippen) and picking on him.” Ybarrondo added that neighbors said the two “fought constantly.”
