Man Arrested in Huntington Beach Rape
A Huntington Beach man was arrested Sunday in connection with the kidnap, robbery and rape of a 23-year-old woman who was abducted at gunpoint outside her apartment complex Saturday night, police said Sunday.
Albertis R. Campbell, 28, was arrested at his Moonshadow Circle apartment on outstanding traffic warrants, and further investigation linked him to the attack, said Lt. Merle Schneblin.
Police said the victim was walking through the Banbury Cross apartment complex on Viewpoint Lane in Huntington Beach, where she lives, about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when she was accosted by a man with a handgun.
The man, described as 25 to 30 years old, tall, thin and with brown hair and a goatee, drove the victim around the city, stopping a few times and ultimately taking her to an apartment on Moonshadow Circle, where he raped her, Schneblin said. The victim’s purse also was taken, he said.
The attacker then drove the woman back to her apartment, around the corner from the Moonshadow Circle residence, about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, he said.
Police, given a description of the attacker’s vehicle, found the white Nissan pickup truck parked on Moonshadow Circle and seized it as evidence about 5 a.m., Schneblin said.
About 10 a.m., Officer John Borges was patrolling the neighborhood when a man yelled at him, demanding to know why his truck had been impounded, Schneblin said.
“One thing led to another,” and Campbell was arrested, initially on the three traffic warrants, he said. Soon after, the kidnap, robbery and rape charges were added, he said.
Police also arrested Campbell’s brother, Roderick James Campbell, 27, at the residence on a warrant for a parole violation.
The Campbell brothers were being held without bail at the Huntington Beach City Jail Sunday.
The victim, who said she did not know her attacker, was treated at Huntington Beach Humana Hospital and released.
