NOMINATIONS FOR VIDEO AWARDS

Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” Weird Al Yankovic’s “Eat It” and REO Speedwagon’s “I Do’ Wanna Know” took the most nominations in the American Video Awards, announced Monday.

The competition is sponsored by the National Academy of Video Arts and Sciences. The winners will be announced April 3. Here are nominees in selected categories:

Male performance: “Born in the U.S.A.,” Bruce Springsteen; “Boys of Summer,” Don Henley; “Careless Whisper,” George Michael; “Dancing in the Dark,” Bruce Springsteen; “Eat It,” Weird Al Yankovic.

Female performance: “Hands Tied,” Patty Smyth; “Glamorous Life,” Sheila E.; “I Feel for You,” Chaka Khan; “Private Dancer,” Tina Turner; “Time After Time,” Cyndi Lauper; “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” Tina Turner.

Group performance: “Heart of Rock and Roll,” Huey Lewis & the News; “Jump,” Van Halen; “I Do’ Wanna Know,” REO Speedwagon; “Hot for Teacher,” Van Halen; “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go,” Wham!
