Keep a Coat and Umbrella Handy Today
Today and tonight will be rainy, breezy and chilly, according to the National Weather Service, with the showers fading when the latest storm from the Gulf of Alaska slides inland on Thursday.
Another storm will be following right behind this one, the weather service said, meaning considerable cloudiness with a chance of more showers Friday and Saturday.
As the current system moved onshore late Tuesday, forecasters guessed that there might be about half an inch of rain in the coastal areas and about two inches in the foothills and mountains. The chance of rain today was estimated at 80%.
It should turn to scattered showers by tonight and be generally cloudy and cooler on Thursday with highs in the 50s.
Snow was anticipated down to the 3,000-foot level in the northernmost mountains of Southern California and down to 5,000 feet in the south. A winter storm warning was in effect for the southern Sierra.
Strong, gusty winds 25 m.p.h. to 40 m.p.h. were forecast for the mountains. It also will be windy in the deserts.
The temperature today is expected to be around 60 degrees in downtown Los Angeles.
