HAWTHORNE — Nonprofit community organizations wishing to sell “safe and sane” fireworks during the Fourth of July observance may apply to the city between now and 5 p.m. on April 1. Applications must be filed at the city manager’s office at City Hall, 4455 West 126th St. Organizations must meet certain qualifications, including having a permanent meeting location in the city and a membership of at least 25 Hawthorne residents.
The city permits eight stands to sell fireworks between June 28 and midnight July 4. If more than eight qualifying applications are received, a drawing will be held at the City Council meeting on April 8. Organizations selling fireworks must pay a $100 permit fee.
